Over 4000 studies have been published on soy. Japanese women have very few menopause or PMS complaints compared to Western women. The transitional mid-life years usually pass unnoticed without hot flashes or severe physical changes. They also have much better breast, endometrial (uterine), bone and heart health than Americans. Very few Asians are overweight. Younger Japanese women have fewer menstrual disturbances. Japanese men have much better prostate and heart health. When Japanese people migrate to the U.S. and begin eating our Western diet, their disease rates quickly rise to equal our rates. The Japanese ingest substantial amounts of soy protein and soy isoflavones in their traditional diet. The Western diet contains almost no soy protein or soy isoflavones. Recent human studies in the US, Europe, Asia and Australia have shown that consumption of soy protein high in isoflavones may contribute substantially to these differences.
